Kingston’s Freshwater Sailing Festival

IMG_2888

August is fast approaching, and we are gearing up for another exciting annual regatta series at CORK/Sail Kingston! With a total of 16 event days and 8 different regattas, Kingston’s Fresh Water Sailing Festival will be nonstop for the entire month. The Early Bird Deadline for all CORK events is Friday, July 31st!  Don’t forget to register before the competitor fee increases!

The CORK International Optimist Regatta will kick off the summer as over 120 optimist sailors aged 7-15 will travel to Kingston August 11-14. This is a great event for young sailors to break into the racing scene, as the event is split between a race division and a green (beginners) division.

Meanwhile 30 board competitors will compete in the CORK International Board Regatta. Set to compete are the Techno 293, RSX Board and RS:X in the Sail Canada Youth and Senior Championships. This event will also be the RSX and Techno 293 North American Championships.

To keep up the exciting pace of competition, the CORK International Regatta, Sail Canada Youth Championships and the 29er North American Championships will be August 14-18. 400 high performance sailors will be racing Laser Standards, Radials, Club 420’s, for the Sail Canada Youth Championships presented by Volvo, or 29ers for the 29er North American Championships,  or Laser 4.7 for the under 17 Canadian Championships.

Without skipping a beat, CORK’s Olympic Classes Regatta will host the Sail Canada Senior Championships with over 120 Laser, Radial, 49er, 49erFX, I14, and Finn sailors from Aug 19-24. The Laser male and Radial female fleet events will be part of the World Sailing World Cup, and the Laser and Radial Open classes will be a North American Grand Prix Event. The I14 fleet will be competing for the Canadian Champion Title while The Finn fleet will be competing for the Eastern Championship Title. For the Laser, Radial, 49er, 49erFX & Finn fleets this event is the Sail Canada Senior Championships presented by Volvo, with 4 days of racing.

Wrapping up the summer will be the J/22 World Championship running from Aug 19-25 with 40 boats scheduled to compete.  This keelboat event will be a great one to watch as competitors strive to be named the best in the world.

We encourage the family and friends of sailors to volunteer at CORK this August. This is a great opportunity to get in on the action, learn new skills and make new friends! To Volunteer, Click Here!
